Dr. Ben Carson and Dr. Cliff Solomon are good friends and sometimes operating partners. "Dr. Carson and I feel that whatever we can we do to provide access for patients to quickly get into the system to get the care they need, is our mission and our passion," said Dr. Solomon, co-founder. "I feel like this is our calling. We care about people, we want people to get better and we want people to get the best result humanly possible.”
Co-founders, Dr. Cliff Solomon and Dr. Ben Carson, told a group of 50 attendees, at the Breakfast in Mt. Washington on June 1, that millions of adults are without health insurance and that the cost of neurosurgery can be devastating. Operating on that premise, Carson and Solomon started a fund to help those who cannot afford to pay for the specialized surgery they need.
"Forty-seven million people are uninsured, but of course they can go to the emergency room, where it costs five times more than if they went to a clinic. What we really have to do is start thinking about creating policies that gets those people to the clinic, so we can spend economical dollars instead of premium dollars," said Dr. Carson.
In the past two years Angels of the OR has provided $65,000 of funding for life changing care to 25 people in need.
