Our Mission
The MISSION of Angels of the OR, Inc. is to fund state-of-the-art pediatric and adult neurosurgical and related medical services for patients in need, regardless of their ability to pay.
Two Celebrated Neurosurgeons, One Caring Vision
The Challenge.
Dr. Ben Carson and Dr. Cliff Solomon agreed that it was the most frustrating part of their jobs. Not the long hours in surgery. Not the crowded schedule of patient visits. It was the feeling of powerlessness – being unable to help those people who couldn’t pay for the specialized brain or spine surgery they needed.
A lack of insurance was the most prevalent reason. But even patients with coverage sometimes found it inadequate. Out-of-pocket costs proved devastating.
The Hope.
Dr. Solomon had already established a charitable organization rendering free surgeries and neurosurgical care ever since starting his private practice 15 years earlier. Meanwhile, Dr. Carson’s Benevolent Endowment Network (BEN) Fund provided financial support for children who needed neurosurgery.
The two long-time friends and colleagues realized that, by combining their efforts, they could further stimulate the nation’s discussion of health care insurance reform and, most importantly, extend even more help to a larger number of people.
Angels of the OR was born.
